TOWN OF BLADENSBURG
COUNCIL MEETING
December 11, 2006

I. CALL TO ORDER: Mayor James called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with Council Members Ficklin, George, Mendoza and Watson present.

II. OPENING PRAYER: Council Member Ficklin gave the opening prayer.

III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor James led the Pledge.

IV. RECOGNITION OF PRINCIPAL PITTS, BLADENSBURG ELEMENTARY: Mayor James presented Ms. Pitts with a plaque of recognition citing her 2006 Excellence in Education award from the Washington Post. In turn, Ms. Pitts presented the Police Department with an award for its assistance in ensuring the safety of students as they walk to Town sites such as the Waterfront Park.

V. CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION FOR DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS GOFF: Mr. Goff received recognition from University Park for the Departments assistance during a summer storm.

VI. ANNOUNCEMENT OF CLOSED SESSION: The Mayor announced a closed session after the December Worksession for contract issues. No actions were taken.

VII. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Council Member Watson moved to approval the November Worksession minutes as presented. Council Member Mendoza seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Council Member George moved to approve the November Council Meeting minutes as presented. Council Member Ficklin seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

VIII. MAYOR & COUNCIL REPORTS: Mayor and Council gave updates on the previous months activities and accomplishments. Highlights included Council Member Mendoza completing CERTS training. Council Member Watson gave updates on the Recreation Council, including potential new members (see unfinished business) and a new subcommittee to focus on youth and senior activities plus for those between. Family Day is January12. Thirty free memberships to the Bladensburg Community Center will be given out at that event.

IX. STAFF REPORTS: Staff gave updates on the previous months activities by Department. Complete reports are available in the Town Office.

X. UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Recreation Council Member Approval: Council Member Watson moved to approve Ms. Carrie Pittman as a member of the Recreation Council. Council Member Mendoza seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Ms. Pittman will serve as Vice Chair of the Council.

XI. NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business.

XII. PUBLIC COMMENT:

The Mayor entertained comments from the audience.

XIII. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, at 8:15 p.m., Council Member George moved to adjourn. Council Member Mendoza seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
