TOWN OF BLADENSBURG
COUNCIL MEETING
January 9, 2006 7:00 p.m.

I. CALL TO ORDER: Mayor James called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with Council Members Ficklin, George, Mendoza and Watson present.

II. OPENING PRAYER: Mayor James gave the opening prayer.

III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chief Moss led the Pledge.

IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Council Member Ficklin moved to approve the December Council Meeting minutes as presented. Council Member George seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

V. ANNOUNCEMENT OF A CLOSED SESSION: Mayor James announced that there was a closed session to discuss personnel issues following the January Worksession.

VI. RECOGNITION OF BLADENSBURG SOCCER TEAM: The Bladensburg High School Team was recognized for its outstanding Fall 2005 Season.

VII. POLICE RECOGITION: Officers and other Department staff for recognized for their actions during a recent incident.

VIII. MAYOR & COUNCIL REPORTS: Mayor and Council Members gave updates on the previous months meetings, activities and other issues of importance.

IX. STAFF REPORTS: Staff gave updates on the previous months departmental activities. Complete reports are available in the Town Office.

X. UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Emergency Ordinance to Amend the Budget for Public Works Garage Roof Replacement: Town Attorney Laplaca read Emergency Ordinance 2006-1. Council Member Ficklin moved to adopt the ordinance as presented. Council Member George seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
MOTION TO APPROVE Bostwick Grant Agreement and Easement with Maryland Historical Trust: Council Member Watson moved to approve the Mayor signing the Agreement. The easement will be reviewed by the Town Attorney prior to a vote for approval by the Council. Council Member Mendoza seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

XI. NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business.

XII. PUBLIC COMMENT

Citizens expressed concerns about the possible relocation of a playground near Red Hawk Terrace and the violence/gang issues arising at Bladensburg High School.

XIII. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, at 8:15 Council Member Ficklin moved to adjourn. Council Member Watson seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
