The Town Council of Bladensburg consists of five town residents who are elected to serve by the majority of voting local residents. The mayor is elected at large for a term of 4 years. Council members are elected by ward for a term of 4 years. Elections are held in odd years on the first Monday of October. The Town Council meets once a month on the second Monday for both worksessions and the regular council meeting.

Public participation and open lines of communication are vital to a successful environment for the citizens of Bladensburg. You are welcome and entitled to participate in the Town’s governmental process. Meetings are accessible to the disabled. Requests for special accommodation must be made a minimum of 72 hours before the meeting date and time. Request special accommodations by calling the Town Clerk at (301) 927-7048.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Town Council is the governing body of the Town of Bladensburg with direct responsibility for the formulation of Town Policy. General responsibilities of the Town Council include:

  • Hearing views of the public on matters concerning Town operations
  • Defining the Policy and Goals of the town
  • Improving programs and organizations for achieving Town goals
  • Deciding financial matters of the Town and the setting of a tax rate
  • Communicating the goals and concerns of the Town to other legislative bodies
  • Enacting all ordinances

MayorThe Mayor is the presiding officer at Town Council meetings. The Mayor votes on matters that come before the Council.
