The Town Council of Bladensburg consists of five town residents who are elected to serve by the majority of voting local residents. The mayor is elected at large for a term of 4 years. Council members are elected by ward for a term of 4 years. Elections are held in odd years on the first Monday of October. The Town Council meets once a month on the second Monday for both worksessions and the regular council meeting.

Public participation and open lines of communication are vital to a successful environment for the citizens of Bladensburg. You are welcome and entitled to participate in the Town’s governmental process. Meetings are accessible to the disabled. Duties and Responsibilities: The Town Council is the governing body of the Town of Bladensburg with direct responsibility for the formulation of Town Policy. General responsibilities of the Town Council include:

• Hearing views of the public on matters concerning Town operations
• Defining the Policy and Goals of the town
• Improving programs and organizations for achieving Town goals
• Deciding financial matters of the Town and the setting of a tax rate
• Communicating the goals and concerns of the Town to other legislative bodies
• Enacting all ordinances
